He was a big, burly guy, at least twice my size. Then I noticed the thorny crown in the shape of an ichthys, a symbol of the Christian fish, along with the John 3:16 tattoo on his well-muscled forearm, and my intimidation began to fade away. He was no longer a threat but my Christian brother.

Everyday miracles in a rundown part of town

Sometimes it’s hard to see the good when it’s not so obvious. We don’t see the gold because of all the dirt and mud. We don’t see kindness because it’s surrounded by excess. Maybe we judge a person as worthless because they listen to music we despise or wear torn, worn out clothing. But beneath the surface, behind our expectations, maybe—if we look a little closer, a little deeper—we could find a miracle.

When God says no

It feels like God is ignoring us when we don’t get a clear answer to our prayer. It hurts when we get a vehement no. We question whether God heard us, or whether He even loves us or cares about our current situation. But as we read in the Bible, we know: our Father listens to us and answers our prayers.
