JB: Tell us about yourself and your faith journey. How did you get to where you are?

Yvonne: I grew up in a family of faith, so I learned about God from a young age. Everything felt beautiful in my life until September 8, 1993. Our third child, William, was born with severe birth defects, and he died nine days later. The event shattered my world, as you can expect. But slowly, I started to think about doing something as a memorial to my son. I decided to go on a mission trip to help other children since I could not help my own. Well, after going on several trips, God showed me the desperate situation of orphans in faraway places. God showed me His purpose for my life. Now, over twenty years later, I have a charity that cares for orphans in Myanmar and Nepal. And my love for Christ grew deeper from this incredible journey.

JB: When did you know you wanted to become a writer?

Yvonne: I never actually wanted to be a writer. My interest always lies in the business world. I loved numbers more than words. But after twenty years in mission, I felt God nudge me to tell the stories from the mission field that I had witnessed. I resisted this nudge as much as possible. One day, the nudge grew stronger. I asked God to put the idea of the book in my husband’s head so that he would ask me about it. I thought I had outsmarted God. That is until one day, as we sat and watched T.V., my husbanded looked over at me and asked how the book was coming along. My mouth dropped open in disbelief. I explained the situation to my husband, and he said, “I guess you are going to write a book.” So, I wrote, “Turning Mountains into Molehills.”

JB: How does your faith influence your writing?

Yvonne: About the time my first book got published, I started writing my blog. It is also called Turning Mountains into Molehills. I think this writing is where my faith has the most significant influence. Through the mission work and time spent in nature, I learned to see God in the ordinary events of life. For example, He used a story of getting stuck in the mud in the middle of Kenya to show me how God remained by my side no matter what happened around me. Another example came from a sweater I bought years ago. I let it hang in my closet because it was too pretty to wear and how this relates to the times, I didn’t use my faith for its purpose. I now see God’s hand in everyday activities and love to write about it.

JB: When did this particular story first start stirring in your heart?

Yvonne: My latest book, “Rest in God Prayer Journal,” came from my struggles during this pandemic. As the epidemic set in, I felt overwhelmed and stressed. I looked for prayers to help me. Soon, I started to realize that others probably felt the same way. So, I decided I would post prayers online each day for myself and others in hopes of helping us remember that God remains in control. I chose a prayer journal is an excellent tool to help us see God’s hand in action. When I pray and read a scripture, I usually find that a situation or need comes to my mind. I write those thoughts down in my prayer journal. These times of praying help me remain in Christ no matter my surroundings.

JB: Do you have other books coming out in the future (or any you are actively writing now)?

Yvonne: Yes: “Sad Little Wildflower” to be published early 2021 by 4RV Publishing. A Christian children’s book. “Finding Faith, Hope, and Love in a Broken World” to be published in December 2020 by Well Made Publishing.” A Bible study of 1 Corinthians 13:13.

JB: What do you hope readers take away from this book?

Yvonne: I would like to see my readers become more comfortable and confident in their prayer lives. Additionally, by journaling, I want them to see how God is with them in all circumstances and be able to praise Him for all the answered prayers.
